At the heart of Original Gifts is a simple idea — that the right gift has the power to bring people closer.
What began as a learning experience between two students quickly grew into something far more meaningful. While studying at Stellenbosch University and based in Durban, we set out to build something of our own — not just a business, but a brand rooted in purpose, creativity, and growth.
In just a few weeks, we immersed ourselves in every aspect of building an online store. From designing and developing the website, to learning photography, product presentation, and marketing — every detail was self-taught, tested, and refined.
Balancing university demands with building a business was not easy. It required long hours, risk, and a willingness to step into the unknown. But through that process, we built more than just a store — we built a foundation.

This business was built from the ground up.
As recent high school graduates in 2025, stepping into university life while launching a business meant taking on double the challenge. It required discipline, resilience, and belief in what we were creating.
Chad Selby, former Head Boy, and Thomas Veale, Prefect of Spirit, carried that same leadership, drive, and ambition into building Original Gifts.
We didn’t wait for the perfect moment — we created it.
